Managerial hierarchies provide a structure well suited to enabling human beings to engage in their primal drive to work and be productive. In form, managerial hierarchies represent the most productive social institution for competitively pursing the creation of economic wealth.
We are continually bombarded with a never ending onslaught of unsuccessful and costly fads and panaceas (a.k.a. "Flavors of the Month"). But none of these departures from the basic form of the managerial hierarchy have produced anything useful, and in most cases have led to the establishment of social institutions that were far less productive and weaker from an economically competitive, wealth generation perspective.

Here is a simple, but powerful, multi-purpose tool, that can easily be integrated into every manager's toolkit. Let's look at one application through a case study of Joe.
Joe is a middle manager in the sales division of a large industrial organization headquartered in Ontario. Joe has been with the company for 12 years. He is in his mid forties, recently remarried, and in the past year has celebrated the birth of his first child. On the surface Joe looks like a guy who has it all; a loving wife, a new child, a great job, good money, a bright future, and the respect and admiration of his co-workers and his boss.
But recently, his "numbers" are off. His boss has been noticing some uncharacteristic behaviors in Joe. He is spending less time on the road cultivating client relationships, he is leaving work during the day for apparent personal reasons, he looks tired and is less involved in the business. His colleagues say he has lost his drive and he' s rapidly losing his edge.
